Department Circuits &Signal Processing


     Predecessor of the Department of Circuit and Signal processing is the Department of Electrical Radio Base which was directed by old professor Bui Minh Tieu. At that time, the Department was divided into 3 groups of major which are Circuit Theory, Digital Technique and Measurement Technique. Besides, it consisted of 14 lecturers and 5 laboratory teachers( there is no doctors, associate professors and professors as well).     

     The task of  department is to compile lectures of Electrical Radio major and teach formal and in-service students. Moreover, some prestige lectures was given birth such as lectures of Signal and Circuit, Digital Pulse Technique, Measurement Fundamentals and InformationFundamentals. Laboratories were built following to the Russian style with the help of Russian professionals and a bundle of devices aided by Socialist countries included in Poland, Hungary and German Democratic Republic (GDR). In the period of against America, Department joined in several scientific research projects at the national level included in Mine detector design which was brought into the world in military and received National award; or the project of DM400 device design which was assisted by Hungary with the purpose of building the transmitting station for Voice of Vietnam Radioin case of its center being exploded by American bombs. Especially, in the extremely difficult period of fighting against America, Department always hold firm to the solidarity, the love each other in the real life and in the teaching as well. As soon as American aircraft B52 dropped bombs, most of teachers and students in university must be evacuated followed by the Government command, but Department still maintained duty of teaching under shelter-pit of the evacuation site. Furthermore, people who were assigned a duty of staying at university and joined in militia unit also accomplished the task successfully. One staff of Department died bravely at 24 years old during the period of work and was honored as revolutionary martyr title. In many years, Department provided to Government not only several staves professional in major and estimated highly in the science world but also a lot of high quality managers such as Dr. Hoang Van Nghien( Ex-member of the Central Committee  of the Vietnamese Communist Party, Ex-President of  Ha Noi People’s committee).

     In 1990, The Faculty of Electrical Radio was divided into two small faculties: Faculty of Information Technique and Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology. In time, Fundamentals department still managed to teach some base subjects for two faculties. After a short time, Committee of Science agreed to merge two faculties and renamed as Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunication. Following the sibling’s generation, in 1994 Associate Professor Dr. Ho Anh Tuy was trustfully assigned to the position of  Head of Department. When the Nation changed to the period of renovation, education began to be socialized, diverse kinds of education and training were developed, leading to the number of students to increase strongly and requiring the innovation of lectures to keep pace with others modern universities in the world. New lectures of Department which were compiled by Department’s lecturers were published and considered as main lectures to students in several universities and colleges such as Circuit Theory, Digital Signal Processing, Information Fundamentals, Measurement Fundamentals, Digital Technique…Moreover, many of lecturers in the Department anticipated and managed numerous projects at Ministry level such as Fingerprint recognition on the computer, Wavelet application in compressing images. In addition, some teachers also taught few of subjects in the outline of Master program of majors Electronic Technique and Information Technique involved Image Processing, Random Signal, Advanced Electronics Measurement. Lecturers of Department also joined in the training of post graduate for these majors and the result is that five post graduates completed their projects successfully, and are assigned to important positions in some offices at the present. Now, Department’s laboratories are upgraded in many times and gradually improved to adapt the desire of students. In these rooms, lab lessons are demonstrated easily to understand and carry out for students with the help of computers. Furthermore, Department also has printed circuit laboratory to supply knowledge of printed circuit design, printed circuit technology to students, helping them get acquainted with these works and create printed circuit on demand.

     Today, Department has two associate professors( one of them invited to sign contract with the university ), seven doctors were trained in Poland, Netherlands, Germany, France, Japan, China, and some of post graduates in England, four masters and two engineers. The present tasks of Department is to manage subjects such as Circuit Theory, Digital Signal Processing, Information Fundamentals, Technical Mathematics, Electronics Measurement Fundamentals, guiding Project 1, Project 2 for formal students, guiding final project( graduation thesis)  for kinds of students involved formal, Engineer 2, in-service, guiding master thesis and doctoral thesis.

     It is undeniable that the orientation of  Department in the future is to become Department with Fundamental theory and strong technical knowledge in Telecommunication Electronics major in both quantity and quality. School of Electronics and Telecommunication educated three main majors: Electronics Telecommunication, Electronics and Information Technology, Biomedical Electronics. All these majors need to be equipped with base knowledge of electronics to prepare the ground for deep speciality knowledge. Mandatory base subjects are Circuit Theory, Information Fundamentals, Digital Signal Processing, Electronic Components, Analog Electronics, Digital Design, Electronic Measurement Fundamentals. To perform these criteria, the committee of science of the school would need to rearrange subjects with one Fundamental Department and some of Major Departments consisting of Information Technique, Telecommunication System, Information Electronics, and Biomedical Electronics. In this time, however, certain subjects in the above list are spread in Major Departments, so that is the reason why laboratories in school are not yet managed properly. In the near future, our School tries to increase the scientific research. Besides, to do this thing, the Head of University should create favorable conditions for lecturers to register several projects at numerous levels. On the other hand, School also try to improve capability of working in major groups to solve some scientific projects which are highly applicableand require synthetic knowledge.
